What Type Of Speakers Are Speaker Bureaus Looking For?

Some people believe that bureaus are only looking for speakers who have sailed around the world in a garbage bag or dug themselves out of a shallow grave with their dentures (thank you Geoff Burch for that hilarious line, I had to use it).

But seriously, bureaus aren’t.

They want someone who is bookable and easy for them to sell.  What does that mean?  It means one or more of the following:

  • The speaker’s topic is relevant, current and of interest to the bureau’s clients
  • The speaker fills a gap. (Fee, expertise, nationality, diversity)
  • The speaker has a new approach or fresh ideas on an established topic
  • The speaker has done something noteworthy (new book; new research; a discovery; world record etc)
  • The speaker walks the talk – (Adventurer still taking on adventures; CEO still in post; current politician etc)
  • The speaker is different, has unique content, a unique view, or makes a serious topic funny

If you can say yes to any of the above, you may want to consider working with Bureaus.  To ensure that you are ready grab our Speaker Bureau checklist and run through it before contacting any.
